Darien Police say they received a report about a fraudulent call on Friday, July 26 around 10:45 a.m. The victim allegedly stated that she had received a call at her Parklands Drive residence from a man identifying himself as "Christopher Greenburg."
The caller knew the woman's personal information, leading her to believe that the call was legitimate, police say. The man allegedly told the woman that there was a glitch with her social security number and was showing that she was deceased.
The caller then informed the woman that he needed to send her new banking cards with updated information, police say.
Police say the woman provided the caller with her current banking information. The following day, the woman allegedly contacted her bank and discovered $17,000 in fraudulent charges to her account. The charges were made in Miami, Florida and Manhattan, New York, according to police.
This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact the Darien Police Department.
